At the very tip of England, Sennen is a beautifully sheltered cove with clean Atlantic-white sand and a naturally enclosed feeling that makes it perfect for young families. The headlands provide shelter from the prevailing south-westerlies, and the sand — white and fine by Cornish standards — packs beautifully. At lower tides a shelf of firm sand appears at the base of the beach that is ideal for moat building.

Beach Type

Sheltered Cove — Protected and calm — perfect for unhurried digging

Medium to coarse sand, often mixed with small pebbles near the cliff base

Tides

Modest tidal range by Atlantic standards. The beach is accessible at most states but the best digging sand is revealed at mid to low tide.

Safety: Despite its sheltered appearance, Sennen receives powerful Atlantic swell. Swim between the flags only. The back of the beach near the slipway is calmer for very young children.
