Twelve kilometres of unbroken Atlantic sand — the longest beach in Europe and a classic French family resort. La Baule has been the destination for serious beach-holiday families for over a century, and for good reason: the sand is fine, flat, abundant, and works beautifully for every hole type. The gentle gradient and the sheltered position within the bay make conditions consistently good. An excellent continental alternative for families who want world-class digging in a French seaside town atmosphere.

Beach Type

Flat Sandy Beach — The classic digging paradise

Fine to medium grain

Tides

Large tidal range — typical Atlantic. Low tide reveals vast additional flat sand. The best digging area shifts with the tide — follow the waterline.

Safety: Lifeguarded sections in summer. The beach is enormous — agree on a meeting point before separating. A strong Vendée breeze can make the western end uncomfortable.
