The mountains behind and the Spanish coast across the bay make for a spectacular setting. Warmer than most French Atlantic beaches, with excellent sand quality for moats and pools.

Atlantic tidal range. Low tide reveals wide flat sand. The sheltered bay means conditions are more consistent than the open coast.

Safety: Calmer than the open Basque coast but still Atlantic. Lifeguarded in summer. The beach gets very busy in July and August — the southern end near the Spanish border is often quieter.
